MovieReview- Rise of the Guardians (2012)

So…I saw this random post on 9gag about how Jack Frost from the Rise of the Guardian’s was a lot like Elsa from Frozen, and I REALLLY wanted to watch the  movie then.

I had wanted to watch this movie since it was first up in the theater, but I remember that my parents were fed up with the cinema being so far away from our house that they weren’t willing for me to go with my friends, and were too tired/lazy to take me themselves. And I kind of forgot about it til I saw that post. And decided to watch it after all.

'

It was an adorable little film all about hope, belief, fun, and fear. It was brilliant. I absolutely ADORED Jack Frost himself, so much that I am willing to assign him a date.

Oh? What do I mean by that? Every Guardian (but the Tooth Fairy, but she’s a hummingbird, so meh.) (..and the sandman…)(OK, so HALF the Guardians) have dates or holidays assigned to them. Easter. Christmas. SOMETHING of the sort.

And even if the other two don’t have set times or seasons, who cares? Sandy’s time was night time when the kids slept and dreamed. Tooth Fairy’s thing was teeth gathering so…whatever to that.

[Although I TRULY appreciated that the teeth had some sort of deeper meaning to them. Memories! That was utterly brilliant. I found it perfectly fitting for the teeth to hold memories from our childhood- and the best and most important ones at that. This was something I really could sink my  teeth into- Oh wow. That really was an unintended pun. If it weren’t, I would have really taken credit for it.]

And so, Jack Frost, the dude with the fun and snow, I’m giving you a date. Your season is obviously winter. So now, your date should be even more obvious. It’s pretty important. It’s the Winter Solstice. The 21st of December. The shortest day, but the longest night to think up pranks, tricks, and create a blizzard. (I’m not a hundred percent sure that’s factually correct about the time though..) Perfect.

I like having my own personal Guardian to my own little holiday =3 It’s name is the only thing I don’t own. And the Guardian too, course. But then again…Frosty is pretty great too..If only I were believed in >.> <.<

Aaah, it’s late, and I have a Rehearsal on the morrow…Er, but I haven’t even typed out the actual review of the movie…um, I’ll try finishing this up quickly.

But there really are a bunch of similarities between Elsa and Jack that it’s startling. Or, predictable.

Just like this movie- Ooooh. But then again, it’s a kids movie, so a happy and perfect ending is suspected and expected from the very beginning. But it’s still worth watching.

I like it’s animation better than Frozen’s though. But I found Frozen’s utterly adorable! And Frost is a much deeper character. I’m not just saying that cuz his hair reminds me of Killua’s or that he’s cute. Or that he’s mischievous. Seriously, Elsa was pretty shallow- there wasn’t any character growth *semicolon* she was just stagnant as a character.

''

And his FEARS! Now that’s what I call realistic. As a literature student, I adored how universal and understandable it was. Or at least, made to be relateble and believable.

I just wished the Man on the Moon wasn’t given such a godly state as heavenly moonlight and would’ve been SHOWN to us. I really would. Plus, they never did resolve how Jack’s memories were literally stolen from him. He didn’t recall his past, so he couldn’t find his “centre”. (Pish posh, what’s this? I spell with a single British spelling, and spell check is on my case…huh. I guess being half American and yet being in British schooling would be confusing sometimes…) Nor did they resolve or show how he handled the silence from the Man on the Moon after so long, and about such important matters. I mean, the poor guy was having an identity crisis for over 300 years. That’s no light matter.

La la la, but really. I loved this movie. Maybe not overall as much as Frozen, but I do like Jack Frost much more than Elsa. But she is easily the better architect, sorry about that, Frost. Just being honest.

But, fear not, you are the 21st of December. So cheers to that!

Oh, and of course, I just HAVE to compare this part of the animation- which had better ice, frost, snow, snowflakes? It’s pretty tough- I’ve decided that both movies win a few awards there. Frozen gets best overall ice and specifically snowflakes. But Rise of the Guardian’s gets frost, easy. But then again- cuz of Frost’s name, there wasn’t all that much focus on ice either, nor individual snowflakes, so it’s not like you’re exposed to terrible ice animation throughout the film.

I say watch it. Definitely. Compare to Frozen, too. I’m sure y’all will. I’d love to hear comparisons and other responses to the movie too.

Did you find the Russian Santa cooler than any other like me? Wish you had seen a six foot one bunny too? Or maybe wished you had Sandy on your charades team? Found Tooth a bit creepy with her feathers and half-hummingbird-ness? Found Frost cute, but strange that he didn’t wear shoes for no apparent reason?

…I actually forgot the hashtag I had for my literature ness D=

Two Rooms, Two Parties, Two Dates?

A Land with Parties, and Totally Weird Public Transport.

^The initial name to this post, but I never got round to telling the transport bit, so that’ll go in another (postponed) post. So I decided to rename this half of the story too.

So I had another weird dream last night.

It started off with me at some kinda party. And it was in a white square room, bearing resemblance to a typical anime classroom. It was full of people partying, dancing, talking, drinking punch, having a good time, the like. There were silhouettes of people that I couldn’t make out. But all the girls were in colorful dresses, and the boys were either in suits or T-shirts and shorts (i don’t know why =/). Lights were flickering, it was a blast!

Even I was in a knee-length dress, and that’s a tad weird. It was a midnight blueish purple, and I was wearing it with elbow length super fancy gloves.

Anyways, we partied. But then after a bit, the room changed. It became smaller, the lights became classroom lights, the people seemed to have left. The only ones in the room now were kinda geeky looking and nerdy people having punch, a few talking to each other, a few on gaming consoles or just sitting awkwardly in corners.

So I notice that there’s got to be more to the party than just this, and following my gut feeling, I leave the room and (the door leading to the class room was in a hallway like so – other door |     |classroom door) and so I walked across to the other parallel door that took me to another party.

A birthday party. And apparently I hated the birthday girl. But to be the total prick I wanted to be, I stayed, ate cake, had a blast, made some new friends, and overall, infuriated her immensely. There was a conga like and after loads of unwrapping gifts and party games, that was the end of that. Everyone’s leaving. Now I’m not sure how we make it here, but we do. Scene shiiift.

Now everyone’s outside, in this mall like set up, with this cinema ish door and ramps leading up to it. Now, I’m talking with this kid, who’s my age, but shorter than me, in a brown suit, round eyes and an innocent smile, and a mop of brown hair. We’re talking and chilling, and walking up and down those ramps. Out of the blue, he asks me out. Whaaat? And I get confused, and he tries to explain that he doesn’t know why but he wants to go on a date with me (very flattering.) But then he gets an emergency call, flustered, and just runs off.

I run off in the opposite direction, and come across this other girl whom I was had become friends with at the second bash. She kinda reminds me of Bisky, from HxH, but not entirely. She had a tanned complexion, twin tails with goldenish brown hair, star hair ties, and a blue, white and yellow frilly flowy dress that was matched completely with other stars too. She looked like a kid, very tiny and petite, shorter than even me. By a little less than a head.

Now we hang out for a bit, but I realize she’s either being overly-friendly or she’s (practicing?) flirting with me. Either way, we hang out at this food court/cafeteria area, and then I randomly hug her and ask this (convenient) photographer to take a picture of us. And she freaks for a bit, cuz I hugged her, but then she kinda acts excited after that. (there were random photographers around to take pictures.) Now, this photographer began to take a picture of this group of people sitting at a table near us first, and we held the pose just waiting for him to finish. So I’m looking in his direction. Another photographer shows up and already snaps a picture, with me looking elsewhere. So I politely ask for another, he complies and then-

For some reason, the chick I was hanging out with, bursts into tears, and runs away, dropping a glass slipper as she went. And I’m just left there thinking…I get to be Prince Charming to another chick, or I become the princess taller than the Prince dressed in Brown?! Da hell, Brain?!!

(I’m not bi =/)

Que tumble weed, silence, and whooshing sound effect as I’m left standing there, thinking that.

Snap. A picture to remember.

Man, this dream was weird =/ and pointless.

Oh, but there’s the weird public transport story…but I guess I’ll make that a part two and post that tomorrow. It’s really late, and I’m suuper sleepyyy =/

So later then!

Sweet and strange dreams!

Ze OneYear Mark~

Sooo apparently i was notified by WordPress itself that today my blog/wall i talk to/journal for future me to read is one year old! and hence has reached Ze One Year Mark! ^_^ Huzzaah~!

Sooo i dont know what im supposed to be doing here…something about how great its been, how i love my (nonexistent-) readers, and love wordpress as a whole, i guess =3

tralalala~

im pretty satisfied with how much ive recorded here, and so glad i didnt give up on this blog, cuz at some point last year, after the summer break, i totally disappeared. im glad i picked up the ball again, otherwise i wouldve regretted it ^_^

my motto is to do what you wont regret, and never walk away from somthing if youre gonna regret it later. i hate regret. a most terrible emotion indeed =P

and and, i actually am surprised at how ive come across other blogs and people and ideas and perspectives and commplements by starting this blog..

(small shout out to mudkipsandrainbows.wordpress.com =) )

But seriously, i like my blog ^_^ and in honour of this anniversary and it being all summerifically wonderful im gonna change my theme to my initial/original artsy summery fun and colorful one =D

So to keeping this Internet Journal going, hope all keep reading =3 if i have any readers, that is (dont get ahead of yourself, wattson….)

To having fun, and bringing more, to recording the past and traveling to the future, to slaying Math the Dragon of Evil in my dreams, and to smiling and laughing whenever i read this craziness,

Just Add Some Sugar to that Mocha.

ps. the anniversary was on the 11th of June, but due to reasons i have already explained and apologized for, this gets posted now.

DIY PaperGem- My First Attempt

So i finally tried out the paper gem DIY. and, alright, it took double the amount of time i thought it would take to make O.o so after 10 min, i finally finished =) =P

*picture was supposed to go here…*

And as i said, the copying/printing the template, cutting and folding happen in minutes, barely.

The glueing it all together part was incredibly hard, though. thats what took forever/8 minutes.

It was impossibly hard and irritating. heres how i did and recommend you to do it=

1. glue together the mid portion first, all of it. the 1a bit.
2. glue together all of ONE of the top pointy bits, 1b.
3. glue these two pieces, 1a and 1b together completely, and with ease.
4. now, this is where it gets tricky. Without glueing 1c beforehand, use it open,            and glue the base of 1c to 1a.
5. now, try to lightly tap, poke, pinch, and push the gem in whichever places to  make sure that all parts of the gem are folded in the right places.  ive found that a bobby pin/’hair grip’/hair pin can be very helpful here. (A sewing needle could also work, but id only recommend it if you really can handle that thing, arent squimish of blood, are patient, careful with your hands and how much force youre applying. )
6. Finally, glue closed the gem by folding the slant side of the top pyramid, the pointy bit, 1c.
7. you might need to poke around at it a bit more to get the shape right.
8. Let dry completely and make sure not to squish =P

And youre DONE! Congrats =D

If all else fails, theres always tape =P you can easily put tap on the tab inside, and then use a bobby pin to flatten the tape down inside. I actually had to resort to this, as unfortunately, when i left my crystal to dry, one little tab didnt stick with the glue. So i did this little tape trick/cheat. and no one can tell i used tape *wink wink* =D im really hating having the semicolon/colon key broken -.-” grrr…

But, despite all glueing challenges, i totally LOVED the end result, and had fun making it too! it was fun, and great, and CUTE. i made mine green and i recycled some colored paper scraps i had leftover from origami making ^_^

Im a BIG origami addict. Today, i actually combined a bunch of things together to make this= a pink origami box inside a box (a little thing i have dubbed Boxception. duh.),  i put this green gem/crystal inside, and closed it all off with a pink heart paper clip =3 =*

More on the box later! I reeeaaaalllyyyy love that origami, so ill post a little walk through on how to make it later =)

Have fun Crafting~

DIY PaperGems & Crystals

As ive been very into the whole DIY thing this summer, and have done a couple projects in my free time, i thought id post links and my own instructions further adding to DIYs i found, performed, accomplished and whatever else. So i dont lose the links too, and so i can easily access all this stuff too.

So I found this amazing  blog with looaads of cute ideas and posts of DIYs called
http://www.minieco.co.uk/

and on it i found this wonderfully easy and pretty idea and instructions on how to make paper gems and crystals. Its super easy, looks super cute, and a fun way to pass the time. you could string these into a necklace, or a curtain if you have the time(which i totally have) and patience (what i lack), or put them in a glass/crystal bowl as decorations, or or… There are so many things you can use these for. You could also give them away as favors at a party for your daughters little princess tea party, or gift them to your friends. its honestly up to how creative you are.

This is one of those wonderful DIYs that you can easily pull off in 5 min or less and yet still manage to impress everyone with the outcome. Its a DIY that makes people think youre amazingly artsy, creative, and simply AWESOME for having managed to make something so impressive. Its an ideal DIY. easy to make. but still impressed everyone and makes them think you mustve put sooo much effort, time, and care into making it. Yep. my favourite kinda DIY. A Cheat DIY. =D

paper-gems

heres her original post= http://www.minieco.co.uk/paper-gems/

Now, first off, youll need to download a template which will tell you exactly in what shape you need to cut the paper to fold and glue into these adorable and uniform crystals. and you can download it here= http://www.minieco.co.uk/images/nov11/minieco-paper-gems.pdf or download it directly from this post by clicking on this= minieco-paper-gems template With the template, heres a photo to work sort of as ‘table of contents’ type thing (sorry, i have NO idea what to call it…) where each number on this picture coincides with the net design on the template. and i promise, its a whole lot easier to understand when looking at both the template and the picture… but here it iiis. basically, so you know which crystal youre making.

Template of gems table of contents

Cut out the net design. Fold along the dotted lines given in th template. Glue the little flaps in such a way as to close the entire crystal/gem. Aaaand youre done! =)

If your having a hard time copying the template, you could print the template onto your colored paper. Then cut out the net, and simply fold the folds in the opposite direction, so that the printed dotted lines are on the inside. simple.

These gems can be made even prettier (say whaat?! =O ) by maybe using printed paper, or if your a cheapskate like me(actually, none of this stuff is available where i live =/) you can paint or pen/ink floral designs, or doodles on notebook paper, or paint geometric designs or whatever by hand on paper and then use that. even newspaper could look cool =). you could also paint effects on each side of the crystal, like light is hitting it and shade the colors accordingly. you could add sequins or beads. its up to you.

You could spray paint the sides metallic silver or gold, like in the original blog.

silver spray painted paper gems crystals

You could spray paint with contrasting colors (green crystal, pink paint. purple crystal, yellow paint). You could use glitter instead of spray paint too (probably what im gonna do. oh yeah, i didnt say? i havent done this DIY yet =3 im planning on doing it today, but i got excited and wanted to post a tutorial type thing about it first. im weird  crazy, i know =P so yeaaah. Or use glitter as a design, a geometric one, or a diagnor checkered pattern would also look prettyy cool. yeah. stuff like this

close up silver spray painted gems

make your crystals/gems look gemmier and more crystalline-y than ever! =)

Hope you (and i both!) have fun making these, and i hope they come out great! this seems super fun and easy and i cant wait to try it aswell. This would be pretty fun to do at a birthday party or a hang out session, just you and your girl friends or whatever, and sit around and and make these. [Then you could joke around about whos is best/worse =P ] It could be a cute little workshop, or a stall selling these home made cuties would be good at any fund raiser. You could do loads of things with them and with making them. Just have fun with it!

Greaaat, so i hope it all works out and you have fuuun doing it!

the cool as hell snowman who brings joy and inspiration to all~

* ill probably post an update later about how mine turn out! =) look forward to that. i just dont think ill be able to take pictures, since my phones not letting me upload pictures onto my laptop recently…grumble mumble…oh well =P

DIY Custom PaperClips, Designs & Ideas

So today i did many things.

One of which was to FINALLY get Dan Brown’s Inferno in Hard-back, as my mother loves the author and was willing to pay for that. So thats GREAT.

While at SSB, i thought id also check out other books and maybe just maybe get Game of THrones book II (no idea what the name is =$ ) or just look around or maybe the Life of Pi. Unfortunately, as the book store has become eviler, they rearranged the book shelves. if they were something like this (birds eye view)=

I I I I I I
I I I I I I

before, now there something like THIS=

___ _____ _____ ______ _____ _____
___ _____ _____ ______ _____ _____ and it SUCKS. now i have no idea where the books i like are kept. and now youre wondering, ‘ok, great. so just ask those helpful guys who work there, duh.’ However, those guys are so not so helpful. they dont know where anything is kept in their own shop.

when i was assigned to read whuthering heights over the winter break for my literature class (an assignment i never did, btw) i spent a grand total of five minutes attempting to find the book. impatient as i am, i finally cracked and asked for “assistance”. It took them FIFTEEN minutes to circulate around the ENTIRE floor of the store (then it was two stories, now three. more on that LATER. funny tale, that…). all to come back to the shelf i had been sifting through. then another ten minutes to find the book. grr.

Soo yeah. i got the book and while i was at it, i was gonna get a clear paged folder in neon colors for my comics but due to surprise budget cuts as my brother got himself a new mouse (he installed an old video game that apparently requires a swivel mouse or something like that) so i had to leave them behind.

So instead i found post its, colorful thumbpins for my bulletin board, and PAPER CLIPS.

And here i am.

I remember WEEKS ago, on 9gag, i saw this cute picture to bend paper clips into heart shapes, and so i googled it, and found the pictures and used them to make a cute little pink heart paper clip that im using as a book mark now. (i love using paper clip bookmarks, their cute, colorful, jazz it up, and dont fall out easily =P )

since i had to google those pics only cuz i never saved them when i first saw them, and regretted that later, i saved them, and thought id post them here.

pink heart clips

And heres how to do it in an easy one two three step guide. well…its so easy that there IS no step three =D

How-to heart shaped paper clips intstuctns

and then, inspired, i searched for other shapes, like stars, or four leaved clovers or flowers, but couldnt find any =( when i do, they will most DEFINATELY be up here. so have no fear, i am on the hunt!

but i did find websites that sold already made fancy paper clips like leaf shaped ones (loved. very naruto =P not a big fan of that though. just find it tolerable NOW. before i used to hate it.) and speech bubbles, like in comics. those wouldve rocked. and loads of other designs too, like elephants, dogs, cats, swirly hearts, flowers, etc. just google for stuff like that.

i did however find some really cool ideas and came up with my own to design and customize a regularly shaped paper clip.

1. Like taking a jumbo paper clip and adding ribbons to one end to use as a griped reliabler bookmark or just to jazz up an assignment like so

simple bookmark paperclips

or something like this

BrillianglyBland-RibbonPaperclips

or as i found on another website, but didnt save the pic (sowwy), make a cute little bow and then loop that into position where these plain ribbons are tied, so it sticks out from the book your reader, or where ever else you decide to put it, like a card. and that particular blogger put buttons in the centre of the bows with some glue. i think DIRECTLY glueing the button, like a huge one, on the paper clip would also look cool.

or something very pre-school, or simple, with less hassle, would be to cut out two identical shapes on paper or stiffened fabric and cut out a cartoon character or design or letter or whatever and sandwhich the tip of the paper clip in between with glue.

or for the extremely lazy, or artistically challenged, or legit preschoolers as a fun little project to encourage reader (or other grades too. i just weally like kindergarten and preschool =3 ) use stickers with the same method =P

you could also add things like glitter, sequins, beads, and other gorgeously girly and artsy ideas =) even tiny little origami might work out great!

so yeaaaah. those are my little ideas and shit. gosh, this took so long to post, as the internet rebelled against this, and posting those photos was also pretty troublesome and nerve racking (esp. paired with the fluctuating helpfulness of the internet conection.. -.-” ). and as ive said, technology is not my forte =P

BUUUT yeaaaah, thats it, and great, im done WO-HOO!

freeeedooooommm

sleeppp…maybe. but ice cream first ❤

kay, then, laterrr!

On Themes and Christmas Nicknames:

recently, ive been going on a themes rampage. =P haha, yeah, ive been changing the theme of this blog from my fav artsy one to that chocolate brown one to this pink christmasy celebration one. all in the grand span of one week, barely =P

thing is, i wanted to deviate from my usual thing, and i thought id use a more wintry them. and that choco one reminded me of a coffee place’s menu so i chose that. doesnt get more apt (with this blogs name and all..) and the whole having a hot cup of coffee in this crisp cold wintry windy weather. so yeah.

i was actually fed up with that dull one and thought id go back to the usual colorful and bright one but then i found this one. Christmasyyyy! yaay =) theres even an ELF! haha, though im gonna call it a leprechaun to show off and underline my non-existing Irish lineage =D

i shall now be using my nickname Frosty more that the Wattson thang =P hee hee

actually, i inspired christmas nicknames with all my friends. (one day i kinda just went ‘hey christmas characters are so cool, i wish i had a christmas nickname =(‘ or ‘wouldnt it be fun to have christmasy nicknames?’ or something along those lines, and tadaaa~ it hapened =P ) i got dubbed Frosty, my friend amna got rudolf (yeah, an f. since she seriously thought it was spelled that way, *laugh*), and ayesha, dainty little fancy formal ayesha, got the polar bear from the soft mints ice commercial =) yep, a desi christmas character ^_^ since that polar bear lacks a name, we knight her for what she’s famous for. ‘Sharingaaa!’ xD

Once a pal of mine, suleman, got a terrible flu but his mom still sent him to school. so his nose was all red and my entire group started calling him rudolph. now, the original rudolf, amna, was peeved at this cuz she thinks he is no where awesome enough to deserve her nickname (..and that he’s too ugly to have the same nickname as her =D that was mean of her, but still she and he arent even friends. barely on speaking terms since they dont really know each other). we still joked that amna got her title as head honch of the reindeer taken away and stolen by the Flighty Flu Wonder (aka suleman, since reindeer can fly.)

singing christmas carols all year round, wohoo!
