DIY PaperGem- My First Attempt

So i finally tried out the paper gem DIY. and, alright, it took double the amount of time i thought it would take to make O.o so after 10 min, i finally finished =) =P

*picture was supposed to go here…*

And as i said, the copying/printing the template, cutting and folding happen in minutes, barely.

The glueing it all together part was incredibly hard, though. thats what took forever/8 minutes.

It was impossibly hard and irritating. heres how i did and recommend you to do it=

1. glue together the mid portion first, all of it. the 1a bit.
2. glue together all of ONE of the top pointy bits, 1b.
3. glue these two pieces, 1a and 1b together completely, and with ease.
4. now, this is where it gets tricky. Without glueing 1c beforehand, use it open,            and glue the base of 1c to 1a.
5. now, try to lightly tap, poke, pinch, and push the gem in whichever places to  make sure that all parts of the gem are folded in the right places.  ive found that a bobby pin/’hair grip’/hair pin can be very helpful here. (A sewing needle could also work, but id only recommend it if you really can handle that thing, arent squimish of blood, are patient, careful with your hands and how much force youre applying. )
6. Finally, glue closed the gem by folding the slant side of the top pyramid, the pointy bit, 1c.
7. you might need to poke around at it a bit more to get the shape right.
8. Let dry completely and make sure not to squish =P

And youre DONE! Congrats =D

If all else fails, theres always tape =P you can easily put tap on the tab inside, and then use a bobby pin to flatten the tape down inside. I actually had to resort to this, as unfortunately, when i left my crystal to dry, one little tab didnt stick with the glue. So i did this little tape trick/cheat. and no one can tell i used tape *wink wink* =D im really hating having the semicolon/colon key broken -.-” grrr…

But, despite all glueing challenges, i totally LOVED the end result, and had fun making it too! it was fun, and great, and CUTE. i made mine green and i recycled some colored paper scraps i had leftover from origami making ^_^

Im a BIG origami addict. Today, i actually combined a bunch of things together to make this= a pink origami box inside a box (a little thing i have dubbed Boxception. duh.),  i put this green gem/crystal inside, and closed it all off with a pink heart paper clip =3 =*

More on the box later! I reeeaaaalllyyyy love that origami, so ill post a little walk through on how to make it later =)

Have fun Crafting~

DIY PaperGems & Crystals

As ive been very into the whole DIY thing this summer, and have done a couple projects in my free time, i thought id post links and my own instructions further adding to DIYs i found, performed, accomplished and whatever else. So i dont lose the links too, and so i can easily access all this stuff too.

So I found this amazing  blog with looaads of cute ideas and posts of DIYs called
http://www.minieco.co.uk/

and on it i found this wonderfully easy and pretty idea and instructions on how to make paper gems and crystals. Its super easy, looks super cute, and a fun way to pass the time. you could string these into a necklace, or a curtain if you have the time(which i totally have) and patience (what i lack), or put them in a glass/crystal bowl as decorations, or or… There are so many things you can use these for. You could also give them away as favors at a party for your daughters little princess tea party, or gift them to your friends. its honestly up to how creative you are.

This is one of those wonderful DIYs that you can easily pull off in 5 min or less and yet still manage to impress everyone with the outcome. Its a DIY that makes people think youre amazingly artsy, creative, and simply AWESOME for having managed to make something so impressive. Its an ideal DIY. easy to make. but still impressed everyone and makes them think you mustve put sooo much effort, time, and care into making it. Yep. my favourite kinda DIY. A Cheat DIY. =D

paper-gems

heres her original post= http://www.minieco.co.uk/paper-gems/

Now, first off, youll need to download a template which will tell you exactly in what shape you need to cut the paper to fold and glue into these adorable and uniform crystals. and you can download it here= http://www.minieco.co.uk/images/nov11/minieco-paper-gems.pdf or download it directly from this post by clicking on this= minieco-paper-gems template With the template, heres a photo to work sort of as ‘table of contents’ type thing (sorry, i have NO idea what to call it…) where each number on this picture coincides with the net design on the template. and i promise, its a whole lot easier to understand when looking at both the template and the picture… but here it iiis. basically, so you know which crystal youre making.

Template of gems table of contents

Cut out the net design. Fold along the dotted lines given in th template. Glue the little flaps in such a way as to close the entire crystal/gem. Aaaand youre done! =)

If your having a hard time copying the template, you could print the template onto your colored paper. Then cut out the net, and simply fold the folds in the opposite direction, so that the printed dotted lines are on the inside. simple.

These gems can be made even prettier (say whaat?! =O ) by maybe using printed paper, or if your a cheapskate like me(actually, none of this stuff is available where i live =/) you can paint or pen/ink floral designs, or doodles on notebook paper, or paint geometric designs or whatever by hand on paper and then use that. even newspaper could look cool =). you could also paint effects on each side of the crystal, like light is hitting it and shade the colors accordingly. you could add sequins or beads. its up to you.

You could spray paint the sides metallic silver or gold, like in the original blog.

silver spray painted paper gems crystals

You could spray paint with contrasting colors (green crystal, pink paint. purple crystal, yellow paint). You could use glitter instead of spray paint too (probably what im gonna do. oh yeah, i didnt say? i havent done this DIY yet =3 im planning on doing it today, but i got excited and wanted to post a tutorial type thing about it first. im weird  crazy, i know =P so yeaaah. Or use glitter as a design, a geometric one, or a diagnor checkered pattern would also look prettyy cool. yeah. stuff like this

close up silver spray painted gems

make your crystals/gems look gemmier and more crystalline-y than ever! =)

Hope you (and i both!) have fun making these, and i hope they come out great! this seems super fun and easy and i cant wait to try it aswell. This would be pretty fun to do at a birthday party or a hang out session, just you and your girl friends or whatever, and sit around and and make these. [Then you could joke around about whos is best/worse =P ] It could be a cute little workshop, or a stall selling these home made cuties would be good at any fund raiser. You could do loads of things with them and with making them. Just have fun with it!

Greaaat, so i hope it all works out and you have fuuun doing it!

DIY Custom PaperClips, Designs & Ideas

So today i did many things.

One of which was to FINALLY get Dan Brown’s Inferno in Hard-back, as my mother loves the author and was willing to pay for that. So thats GREAT.

While at SSB, i thought id also check out other books and maybe just maybe get Game of THrones book II (no idea what the name is =$ ) or just look around or maybe the Life of Pi. Unfortunately, as the book store has become eviler, they rearranged the book shelves. if they were something like this (birds eye view)=

I I I I I I
I I I I I I

before, now there something like THIS=

___ _____ _____ ______ _____ _____
___ _____ _____ ______ _____ _____ and it SUCKS. now i have no idea where the books i like are kept. and now youre wondering, ‘ok, great. so just ask those helpful guys who work there, duh.’ However, those guys are so not so helpful. they dont know where anything is kept in their own shop.

when i was assigned to read whuthering heights over the winter break for my literature class (an assignment i never did, btw) i spent a grand total of five minutes attempting to find the book. impatient as i am, i finally cracked and asked for “assistance”. It took them FIFTEEN minutes to circulate around the ENTIRE floor of the store (then it was two stories, now three. more on that LATER. funny tale, that…). all to come back to the shelf i had been sifting through. then another ten minutes to find the book. grr.

Soo yeah. i got the book and while i was at it, i was gonna get a clear paged folder in neon colors for my comics but due to surprise budget cuts as my brother got himself a new mouse (he installed an old video game that apparently requires a swivel mouse or something like that) so i had to leave them behind.

So instead i found post its, colorful thumbpins for my bulletin board, and PAPER CLIPS.

And here i am.

I remember WEEKS ago, on 9gag, i saw this cute picture to bend paper clips into heart shapes, and so i googled it, and found the pictures and used them to make a cute little pink heart paper clip that im using as a book mark now. (i love using paper clip bookmarks, their cute, colorful, jazz it up, and dont fall out easily =P )

since i had to google those pics only cuz i never saved them when i first saw them, and regretted that later, i saved them, and thought id post them here.

pink heart clips

And heres how to do it in an easy one two three step guide. well…its so easy that there IS no step three =D

How-to heart shaped paper clips intstuctns

and then, inspired, i searched for other shapes, like stars, or four leaved clovers or flowers, but couldnt find any =( when i do, they will most DEFINATELY be up here. so have no fear, i am on the hunt!

but i did find websites that sold already made fancy paper clips like leaf shaped ones (loved. very naruto =P not a big fan of that though. just find it tolerable NOW. before i used to hate it.) and speech bubbles, like in comics. those wouldve rocked. and loads of other designs too, like elephants, dogs, cats, swirly hearts, flowers, etc. just google for stuff like that.

i did however find some really cool ideas and came up with my own to design and customize a regularly shaped paper clip.

1. Like taking a jumbo paper clip and adding ribbons to one end to use as a griped reliabler bookmark or just to jazz up an assignment like so

simple bookmark paperclips

or something like this

BrillianglyBland-RibbonPaperclips

or as i found on another website, but didnt save the pic (sowwy), make a cute little bow and then loop that into position where these plain ribbons are tied, so it sticks out from the book your reader, or where ever else you decide to put it, like a card. and that particular blogger put buttons in the centre of the bows with some glue. i think DIRECTLY glueing the button, like a huge one, on the paper clip would also look cool.

or something very pre-school, or simple, with less hassle, would be to cut out two identical shapes on paper or stiffened fabric and cut out a cartoon character or design or letter or whatever and sandwhich the tip of the paper clip in between with glue.

or for the extremely lazy, or artistically challenged, or legit preschoolers as a fun little project to encourage reader (or other grades too. i just weally like kindergarten and preschool =3 ) use stickers with the same method =P

you could also add things like glitter, sequins, beads, and other gorgeously girly and artsy ideas =) even tiny little origami might work out great!

so yeaaaah. those are my little ideas and shit. gosh, this took so long to post, as the internet rebelled against this, and posting those photos was also pretty troublesome and nerve racking (esp. paired with the fluctuating helpfulness of the internet conection.. -.-” ). and as ive said, technology is not my forte =P

BUUUT yeaaaah, thats it, and great, im done WO-HOO!

Burned Gorgeous Flower Embellishments

4873238162_372c120208Burned Gorgeous Flower Embellishments

I found this DIY project on how to make these, and honestly, its just SO EASY and i just ADORE the end result ❤ its cute, pretty, and so versatile that you could use this flower on anything! just click on the picture, and youll be leaded to the blog for instructions with pictures on hwo to recreate this beautiful invention.

Adding this flower onto an old dress, or belt, purse, or bag to make a huuuge difference and would make a something old seem much more new and festive. its just such a FUN idea. =D

i like it, cuz it involves absolutely no sewing skills- no matter how artsy i am, i cant sew ^_^ its easy enough to produce in a couple of minutes if you have all the equipment. i wanna make this now, and im thinking of adapting a small version and super gluing it to a pin to stick in my hair =) i also wanna make a big version for a corsage, so i could pin it to some of my purses and some scarfs too =) then i could also pin it onto my sash at school =)

sewing on or clipping on one of these pretty roses could totally change any outfit to a more dazzling, loud, elegant, fancy, formal, bold, attention grabbing, feminine element to it simply by using the right color, and size.

i do hope you guys try it, its just so INTERESTING that you all muuust =* but still, it seems cool, right? fun? something you just MUST try? …no, just me? ok… =S =P haha, i hope sharing this idea inspires others, as it does me =)

haha, and most exciting of all, it involves FIRE. eeek. i soooo wanna try it noooow! *___* yesh, i know im VERY violent =3
