So…I saw this random post on 9gag about how Jack Frost from the Rise of the Guardian’s was a lot like Elsa from Frozen, and I REALLLY wanted to watch the movie then.
I had wanted to watch this movie since it was first up in the theater, but I remember that my parents were fed up with the cinema being so far away from our house that they weren’t willing for me to go with my friends, and were too tired/lazy to take me themselves. And I kind of forgot about it til I saw that post. And decided to watch it after all.
It was an adorable little film all about hope, belief, fun, and fear. It was brilliant. I absolutely ADORED Jack Frost himself, so much that I am willing to assign him a date.
Oh? What do I mean by that? Every Guardian (but the Tooth Fairy, but she’s a hummingbird, so meh.) (..and the sandman…)(OK, so HALF the Guardians) have dates or holidays assigned to them. Easter. Christmas. SOMETHING of the sort.
And even if the other two don’t have set times or seasons, who cares? Sandy’s time was night time when the kids slept and dreamed. Tooth Fairy’s thing was teeth gathering so…whatever to that.
[Although I TRULY appreciated that the teeth had some sort of deeper meaning to them. Memories! That was utterly brilliant. I found it perfectly fitting for the teeth to hold memories from our childhood- and the best and most important ones at that. This was something I really could sink my teeth into- Oh wow. That really was an unintended pun. If it weren’t, I would have really taken credit for it.]
And so, Jack Frost, the dude with the fun and snow, I’m giving you a date. Your season is obviously winter. So now, your date should be even more obvious. It’s pretty important. It’s the Winter Solstice. The 21st of December. The shortest day, but the longest night to think up pranks, tricks, and create a blizzard. (I’m not a hundred percent sure that’s factually correct about the time though..) Perfect.
I like having my own personal Guardian to my own little holiday =3 It’s name is the only thing I don’t own. And the Guardian too, course. But then again…Frosty is pretty great too..If only I were believed in >.> <.<
Aaah, it’s late, and I have a Rehearsal on the morrow…Er, but I haven’t even typed out the actual review of the movie…um, I’ll try finishing this up quickly.
But there really are a bunch of similarities between Elsa and Jack that it’s startling. Or, predictable.
Just like this movie- Ooooh. But then again, it’s a kids movie, so a happy and perfect ending is suspected and expected from the very beginning. But it’s still worth watching.
I like it’s animation better than Frozen’s though. But I found Frozen’s utterly adorable! And Frost is a much deeper character. I’m not just saying that cuz his hair reminds me of Killua’s or that he’s cute. Or that he’s mischievous. Seriously, Elsa was pretty shallow- there wasn’t any character growth *semicolon* she was just stagnant as a character.
And his FEARS! Now that’s what I call realistic. As a literature student, I adored how universal and understandable it was. Or at least, made to be relateble and believable.
I just wished the Man on the Moon wasn’t given such a godly state as heavenly moonlight and would’ve been SHOWN to us. I really would. Plus, they never did resolve how Jack’s memories were literally stolen from him. He didn’t recall his past, so he couldn’t find his “centre”. (Pish posh, what’s this? I spell with a single British spelling, and spell check is on my case…huh. I guess being half American and yet being in British schooling would be confusing sometimes…) Nor did they resolve or show how he handled the silence from the Man on the Moon after so long, and about such important matters. I mean, the poor guy was having an identity crisis for over 300 years. That’s no light matter.
La la la, but really. I loved this movie. Maybe not overall as much as Frozen, but I do like Jack Frost much more than Elsa. But she is easily the better architect, sorry about that, Frost. Just being honest.
But, fear not, you are the 21st of December. So cheers to that!
Oh, and of course, I just HAVE to compare this part of the animation- which had better ice, frost, snow, snowflakes? It’s pretty tough- I’ve decided that both movies win a few awards there. Frozen gets best overall ice and specifically snowflakes. But Rise of the Guardian’s gets frost, easy. But then again- cuz of Frost’s name, there wasn’t all that much focus on ice either, nor individual snowflakes, so it’s not like you’re exposed to terrible ice animation throughout the film.
I say watch it. Definitely. Compare to Frozen, too. I’m sure y’all will. I’d love to hear comparisons and other responses to the movie too.
Did you find the Russian Santa cooler than any other like me? Wish you had seen a six foot one bunny too? Or maybe wished you had Sandy on your charades team? Found Tooth a bit creepy with her feathers and half-hummingbird-ness? Found Frost cute, but strange that he didn’t wear shoes for no apparent reason?
